ASTURIAS - July 2002
During the summer 0f 2002, New Strides presented ‘Asturias’, a new piece by James Duncan. This three act play is set in Asturias in Northern Spain, between the years of 1934-1986, and is centred around the miners of this region who bravely defended their community against fascism. This was central to the advent of the Spanish Civil War and yet is much forgotten in history. This play toured the north-east of England to great success.

THE FALAFEL TRUST - January 2001
In association with The British Friends of Neveshalom/Wahhat Al Salam (a charity who supports a cross cultural peace village in Northern Israel which has been established for 12 years- the name means ‘Oasis of Peace’) New Strides held a Peace Party in the New Year of 2001 to bring together the Jewish and Arabic communities. This was facilitated by one of our founder members, Tiran Aakel . The event was an entertainment evening held in North-east London with live music, stand up comedians, home cooking and a raffle. This evening was a great success with all proceeds going to Neveshalom/Wahhat Al Salam
SAB! - August 2000
Our first theatrical production SAB! (a satire about hunt saboteurs and the hunting fraternity) was a resounding success. We opened in a pub in Belfast before heading off for a week at the Edinburgh Fringe. There followed lots of hard and enjoyable work.

THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN - April 2000
New Strides’ first project was begun in April 2000: ‘The Indestructible Man’, a fifteen minute black & white film exploring the male ego. This character driven piece was shot in London and has taken longer than expected to process (due to finances!). However we hope to take the film to Berlin Film Festival next year, as well as to other independent cinemas and festivals nation-wide. Watch this space for details of further showings at festivals and local cinema screens!
